Aloe Vera is a succulent and erect plant that is popularly called a wonder plant.There are about 500 species of the Aloe plant and most are found in North Africa.
The aloe plant is a medicinal plant that has been used for therapeutic uses for many years.
There have been several claims of the healing powers of the plant.Some have scientific backings while others do not have.
However, the it has been proven to work very well for skin related issues.I will discuss below, some of the other benefits attributed to Aloe vera.
1. Constipation.Aloe vera latex is a yellow pulp which is found just under the outer part of the aloe leaf can help relieve symptoms of constipation. The compound responsible for this effect is called aloin, or barbaloin, which has well-established laxative effects.
2.Aloe vera gel can be used as a shaving cream, as the gel has a great texture and makes a hydrating shaving cream.The antibacterial properties of the gel is also suitable for razor cuts
3.Aloe vera contains antioxidants and antibacterial properties.These antioxidants belong to a family known as polyphenols and they are very important for health, as they can help prevent some bacteria that causes infections
4.Aloe vera helps to speed up healing of burns and wounds.As ealier said, Aloe vera is suitable for skin treatment or topical medication. Its earliest uses were for the treatment of sores and burns. Aloe vera ointments have been sold as are an over-the-counter medication for skin burns since 1959.
5. Lowers blood sugar. A study shows that drinking two tablespoons of aloe juice every day for a period of two weeks reduced the sugar level of people with type two diabetes.
6. Reduces dental plaque. Aloe Vera mouth wash/rinse is an effective way to prevent the accumulation of bacterial biofilms (plaque) on the teeth.
In a study of 300 healthy people, 100% pure Aloe Vera juice was compared to the standard mouthwash ingredient chlorhexidine. The Aloe vera mouth rinse was found to be as effective as chlorhexidine in reducing dental plaque.
7. Aloe vera gel may improve skin and prevent wrinkles by slowing aging of the skin and increase collagen production and improve skin elasticity.
In summary, Aloe Vera will continue to be one plant that we can all benefit from in one way or the other, as studies are still been carried out to determine more of its beneficial properties and uses.
