The EFCC has begun the prosecution of one Olayinka Sanni who is alleged to have been involved in a whopping N1.2 billion fraud at Access bank. The Bank handed over the accused to the commission for prosecution after it was discovered that he illegally transferred funds from several customers’ accounts.
While giving evidence in court, a staff of the bank, one Arthur Ezindu narrated how Olayinka who was then an Account General Manager stole several amounts from the bank’s customers and falsified documents which purportedly emanated from the bank.
Some of the affected customers include Falana & Falana Chambers; Babington Junior Seminary; Viju Industries; Mechano Nigeria, PWU Nigeria; Elizade Nigeria; Murhi International Group, amongst others.
The bank became aware after it received several complaints from the customers about unauthorized debits to their accounts. When an investigation was carried out, it all pointed to Olayinka, who told the Ezindu and others that everything was under control and not to continue with the investigation. He allegedly also claimed that there was more to the matter.
Olayinka Sanni was arraigned alongside Oyebode Oteyebi and a company Sidaw Ventures Ltd through which he allegedly transferred the funds. It was discovered that the company has Adamu as its signatory but Olayinka managed the accounts. His handwriting was found on some of the company cheques.
The case has been adjourned for further hearing while bail was refused the accused.
