There was a little drama yesterday at the Lagos High Court as Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike a.k.a. Evans, the alleged billionaire Kidnap kingpin refused to come down from the prison van popularly called Black Maria, in the court premises.
The Lagos state government had brought an additional five-count charge against the accused and three others-Joseph Emeka, Ugochukwu Nwachukwu and Victor Aduba. The fresh charges bother on attempted murder, conspiracy to kidnap as well as kidnapping.
Evans was however forcefully dragged down from the van on the orders of the judge before he was taken into the court handcuffed and with his shirt torn at the right shoulder.
After the court rose Evans broke down in tears. He alleged been maltreated by the prison warders. He claims he is not allowed visitation, no good food, not being allowed to see a doctor and been locked up in isolation.
However, the prison warder denied the allegations, stating that the defendant is been taken care of like every other inmate. He added that a doctor checks on Evans regularly and checked him in the morning after Evans refused to go to court because he was sick.
Ms. Titilayo Shitta-Bey, the State Director for Public Prosecutions (DPP), In her response to the alleged maltreatment of the defendants said the defendants were making up the story, adding that they are properly taken care of.
