The Enugu State Police Command has arrested five people over allegedly planting charms in a parcel of land, which is in dispute leading to the death of one Thomas Ezeugwu.
The Spokesperson for the Command, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said the death happened in Nkpologwu town.SP Amaraizu said that the Late Thomas was said to have died after he slumped in the morning of Oct. 6.
After the death of Thomas, his corpse was brought back to his hometown of Nkpologwu for burial.As the mourning was going on, it was revealed that three men named Okolo Nicholas, Augustine Ezeugwu and Peter Ezugwu all from the same town but living in Onitsha in Anambra state began confessing.
The three men, who came for burial ceremony of the late Thomas, were said to have called the villagers and informed that they conspired and brought charms from Omor Town of Anambra which was placed on the disputed land.They said that whoever entered the land will die.
The reason for their action was based on the fact that the deceased had sold 20 plots of the communal land without their consent.
Based on their confession, the police swung into action to “investigate the invocation of Juju and trial by ordeal to wit-murder against the suspects.
The two native doctors who allegedly gave them the juju have also been arrested.
