Man Sentenced to 77-years In Prison For Pretending To Be A Spirit to Defraud His Victim

Mohammed Yusuf was yesterday sentenced to 77 years in prison by a Federal High Court, in Gusau, Zamfara State for pretending to be a ‘spirit’ and defrauding a man with the sum of N20million.

Mustapha was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment each on eleven count charge brought against him by the EFCC. Mohammed Yusuf is said to have defrauded one Ya’u Mohammed between November 2012 and January 2013 in an advance fee fraud scheme.

While posing as a spirit named Asmau, based in Niger Republic, Yusuf convinced the complainant via a phone call into believing that the female voice had powers to establish schools and mosques to promote Islam but it needed a human vessel through which the goals could be achieved.

The Ya’u Mohammed fell for the scheme after threats that if he didn’t obey the voice of the spirit he will die.

The convict began to extort several amounts of money from his victim with which he bought exotic cars and a mansion in red bricks area of Kano state.
