A mother of two has been arrested as she attempted to smuggle a phone to her boyfriend who is in prison custody.She was busted by the officials of the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS) in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The woman, Fatima Balogun who was caughte by the Special Intelligence Unit of the Nigerian Prison Service, made the attempt on Wednesday at the gate lodge of Abeokuta maximum Prisons in Ibara.
Fatima confessed to hiding the phone which she had bought for her boyfriend Ganiyu Ajibode, in a cooler of soup. She said she was a divorcee with two children and met Ganiyu about two years ago.
The suspect who lives in Lagos said it was the first time she would be visiting the Prison to see her boyfriend who was remanded for armed robbery six months ago.
Benson Abolade, the Controller of Prisons, Ogun State command, said the action amounted to a threat to national security, as the suspect was arrested for trafficking in Prison, which he said was against the Prison operation.
Fatima Balogun said she hid the phone, wrapped in a cellophane paper, in the stew because she knows they will not allow her to take it to him in the prison.
