Anambra state has been in commotion following the alleged death of three students from monkeypox virus which was said to have been injected by men of the Nigerian army who are carrying out free medical services in schools.
IPOB made the alleged claims earlier and parents have invaded schools to get their wards.
The state government has however reacted to the development. In a statement issued, the government denied the claims and urged parents and the entire citizens of the state to remain calm.
The statement released by the secretary to the state government Solo Chukwulobelu said the military men where in some schools in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo local government area to carry out free medical services.
It added that some mischief makers falsely claimed that the soldiers were there to inject the students with the monkeypox virus.
The state government said it had contacted the military to stop the free outreach until the citizens are properly sensitized and it also urged parents and guardians to stop withdrawing the children from schools.
The Federal government had also denied claims that that the monkeypox outbreak in some states was as a result of the government’s free medical care.
Minister for information Lai Mohammed asked Nigerians to disregard the false information being spread as it has a sinister motive.
Monkey Pox virus is found in monkeys and is very rare in humans, it belongs to the same family as chicken pox and smallpox.
It is believed that the current outbreak is as a result of someone eating monkey meat and contracting the virus.
