The man suspected of shooting at a crowd attending a country music festival Sunday night was a local resident with no previous criminal records in the state of Nevada.
He has been identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, lived in the city of Mesquite just 90 minutes outside Las Vegas, where he bought a home in a retirement community for $369,000 in 2015, public records show.
He lived at his home 62-year-old Marilou Danley, the same woman police had said they were looking for to question on Sunday night as an investigation began into the horrific terror attack.
His public record shows that Paddock had both hunting and fishing licenses, as well as a pilot’s license, but no criminal record in the state of Nevada. He had no social media handles which have made it difficult to get images to match with what the public records show.
He had worked as an internal auditor at Lockheed Martin for a while and managed an apartment building complex in Mesquite, Texas.
By the time Police broke down the door of the room from where Stephen Paddock opened fire at the Mandalay Bay Resort, he had committed suicide at about past10pm on Sunday night.
The attack has now become the deadliest mass shooting in the modern history of the US with over 58 people dead and 515 injured.
Paddock attacked the concertgoers as Jason Aldean performed on stage mark the end of the third and last day of the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival, which was held across the street at the Mandalay Bay resort.
The concert had over 20,000 attendees who described the attack as ‘nonstop gunfire,’ which only paused when the gunman reloaded his weapon. It has not been made known the type of weapon the attacker used, but police say they found more than ten rifles in the room from where he attacked and subsequently shot himself.
Paddock was staying at the resort since Thursday, September 28, and images of the resort taken after the shooting showed two windows were blown out, fueling speculation that there might have been two shooters at the scene.
His property at Mesquite is now being searched by investigators and has been cordoned to prevent the public and media from having access.
Apart from his expensive Nevada property, Paddock also the owned two planes, and according to the FAA records was certified in 2003 as a private pilot.
It has not been ascertained if Paddock had any ties to any terror groups.
