Security has been beefed up nationwide by the Nigeria Police Force to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free independence anniversary celebration across the country.
The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris has deployed helicopters to monitor difficult terrains as well as marine gunboats to patrol riverine areas.The State commissioners of police and Assistant Inspectors- General of Police in charge of Zones to deploy personnel to strategic locations within their commands.
All personnel and departments of the force including conventional policemen, Police Counter-Terrorism Unit, Mobile Force personnel, Special Police Forces, Force Intelligence and Investigation Department for covert and overt operations would be deployed to the field for proper security coverage.
A statement by the Force public relations officer said that mounted troops along with the dogs’ section were also deployed to facilitate crowd control and crime prevention at venues of celebration and recreation during the period and beyond.The deployed personnel are under instruction to be polite and civil in carrying out their duties.
The statement further stated that surveillance and proactive crime prevention strategies have been adopted, while raids of criminal hideouts, identified troubled spots and other vulnerable areas to remove criminal elements would continue all through the period.
