Water is the basic component of our body forming 60 percent of our body weight.Its importance can not be over-emphasized as the body needs water to survive.

The body cells need water to properly function, water helps the body get rid of waste through urine and bowel movement and it also helps lubricate joints.Lack of water leads to health issues one of which is dehydration which saps your energy and retention of waste products in the body.

Sometimes we ask ourselves of experts about the correct quantity of water our bodies need daily and we get various answers.This is because the question is not easy to answer.

Various Studies have given several recommendations but the truth is that individual water needs depend on a lot of factors, including individual health, where you live and how active the individual is.

There is no particular formula that fits everyone, but understanding your body and its need for water will help you determine how much water to take per day.

Because we lose water every day through our breath, sweat, urine and bowel movements, there is need to refill the body with water.

On the average, men should take about 3.7 liters of water while women should take 2.7 liters.This includes water gotten from beverages, food, and other liquids.

The common advice of drinking 8 glasses of water per day is reasonable, but the truth is that some people need less while some others need more depending of their level of activity or the temperature of their environment.

Women who are breastfeeding or pregnant need more water, those who exercise take more water, if you have diarrhea, you need more water.

To fulfill your fluid requirements, you do not need to depend only on the water you drink, you can also achieve your goal by eating fruits that have contain water like watermelon or eating vegetables like spinach.

Sports drinks should be taken only when intensely exercising for more than one hour as they replace electrolytes lost through sweating and sugar needed for energy during long periods of exercise.
Please note that sports drink is different from Energy drink, as energy drinks contain large amounts of caffeine and stimulants and do not replace electrolytes.

You need to watch your body to determine whether you need water.For instance, if your urine is very yellow, then you need water, or if you feel thirsty, then its time to have a glass or two of water.

It is advisable to drink water when you feel hungry as thirst is mistaken for hunger sometimes.Also, drink water in-between meals.
