Mercy Ameh, a 33-year –old woman has bagged a three-year sentence in jail without an option of fine.She was arrested for stealing clothes at Aswani Market in Lagos state.

Mrs. Mercy who was arraigned before the Isolo Magistrates court pleaded guilty at to conspiracy and stealing. She was found guilty found her guilty and was subsequently sentenced.

P.M Express reports that the incident occurred at the market which is located along the Oshodi/ Apapa Expressway in Lagos, Nigeria.Mercy is said to have to the market and under the pretext of buying clothes but her main aim was to steal.

She admitted in court that she stole a bag of clothes worth N1.4 million belonging to a certain Mrs. Atunike Adeniyi.

The owner of the clothes, Mrs. Adeniyi had kept the bag at a place while attending to other customers.When Ameh noticed she was not watching her, she stole the items.

The owner of the bag later checked the items and discovered that her items were missing and raised an raised alarm which alerted other traders in the market who joined her in a search for the bag.

Mercy Ameh was caught while trying to escape and was almost mobbed by the angry traders before the intervention of the police at Aswani Division.

She was arrested and taken to police station where she confessed to stealing the clothes which were later recovered from her.

Mercy is said to be married with children but her husband did not show up in court.
