ASUU Calls Off Strike

ASUU suspends strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) yesterday night called off its five weeks old strike.The union announced an unconditional suspension of its nationwide strike which started August 13th.

ASUU directed all university lecturers to resume work from today, Tuesday 19 September.The suspension of the strike followed a meeting between the union and a government delegation.

The meeting between ASUU and the Federal Government Negotiation Team which was led by Senator Chris Ngige the Minister of Labour and Employment started about 4.00pm and was supposed to last for one hour, but it dragged for almost four hours before an agreement was reached on all contending issues.

ASUU began the indefinite nationwide strike due to the Federal Government’s refusal to fulfill the 2009 agreement made with it.
